Multiple Listing Services in Northern California
Announce Consolidation Plan
For Release: January 9, 2006

January 9, 2006 (San Ramon, CA) – Multiple Listing Services (MLSs) in northern California representing over 46,000 subscribers and participants have had a series of meetings during 2005 culminating in a two-day regionalization planning session facilitated by Clareity Consulting on January 4-5, 2006 in San Ramon, California.

Meeting participants included six northern California MLSs including REInfolink, Contra Costa MLS, Bay East MLS, East Bay Regional Data, Central Valley MLS and the San Francisco Association of REALTORs® MLS covering the following 11 counties: Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Western Merced, and San Francisco.

To better serve the current and future needs of real estate professionals in northern California, the participants have agreed, in principal, to consolidate MLSs and standardize on a single set of business rules, a common database structure, and begin the process of merging into a single MLS system. The new organization will be association-owned, broker-governed, and agent-centric.

During the planning session a timeline for regionalization was developed. The timeline culminates with a single regional MLS being established by the end of 2007. The regionalization plan and project milestones will be reviewed and approved by key stakeholders over the next 30 days. Agents and brokers will begin to see the benefits of the regional MLS in 2006 as the initial steps of rules standardization and common listing database are developed. The new standardized rules are scheduled to be adopted by March 1, 2006.

The regional MLS will create efficiencies for real estate brokers and agents by eliminating the need to belong to and navigate multiple MLSs and conform to multiple sets of rules and regulations. These changes will allow brokers and agents to better serve consumers.
